E-MRS Fall Meeting 2015

EMRS logo neu
The final conference of the Marie-Curie ITN SHeMat was realised as an autonomous session at the E-MRS Fall Meeting 2015 which took place from 15-18 September at the Warsaw University of Technology.

Warsaw was chosen as the optimum place for finalising this project as the patroness of the European funding scheme ITN, Marie Skłodowska Curie, was born here in 1876. Additionally hints concerning SHeMat can be found at each metro station in Warsaw (see picture).

EMRS News

Throughout the duration of the conference, our symposium addressing on “Self-Healing materials: from concepts to market” attracted constantly 50 to 60 participants with seven oral and two poster sessions. The scientific program comprised inspiring invited and contributed presentations from all related material classes, including polymers, composites, concrete, ceramics, metals, bioinspired materials, and devices. Contributions from the major European and national research programs on self-healing materials were delivered, and lead to vivid discussions across the disciplines and material classes.
One highlight was the poster prize which was awarded to Niels van Herck, a young researcher from the University of Ghent, Belgium, titled “Healable Shape-Memory Polyurethanes Using Reversible TAD Chemistry”.
The self-healing symposium was one of the highlights among the 22 parallel thematic symposia of the EMRS fall Meeting 2015 with in total about 1000 participants.

20. April 2015 | Symposium

Invitation to interdisciplinary Symposium on “Self-Healing Materials – From Concepts to Market” (Sept. 2015, Warsaw) I Abstract submission open

The three-day interdisciplinary symposium on “Self-Healing Materials – From Concepts to Market” will present the latest update on various strategies to induce self-healing mechanisms in structural and functional materials where damage management and self-repair is of relevance. By emphasizing the multidisciplinary character of the field, an intensive exchange on ideas, concepts, and realizations for the future of self-healing materials between experts from academia and industry is envisaged.
The program will cover sessions focussing on the important material classes, including polymers, composites, concrete, ceramics, metals, and functional components.

The symposium is part of the E-MRS 2015 Fall Meeting in Warsaw. The 2015 E-MRS Fall Meeting and Exhibit will be held in Warsaw University of Technology, from September 15 to 18 (Tuesday-Friday), assembling 22 parallel symposia, a plenary session and exhibition.
The symposium is co-organized in cooperation with the projects SHINE, HealCON, SAMBa, and the Marie Curie Initial Training Network SHeMat “Self Healing Materials – From Concepts to Market”.

Abstracts limited to 1500 characters should be submitted via the E-MRS website at www.european-mrs.com. The paper deadline is May 25, 2015.
The organisation team cordially invites contributions from all related disciplines, i. e. chemistry, physics, material sciences, engineering, mathematics and biomimetics, and encourage contributions employing novel biomimetic, sustainable and/or comprehensive concepts. Please consider to contribute abstracts for oral presentation and full-attention poster sessions.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in Warsaw.

Successful third Training School SHeMat - 2015

The third training school of the SHeMat project took place in Lausanne during the first weeks in February. It was a great pleasure as all 13 SHeMat fellows attended the training school. The fellows were taught concerning sustainability assessment, project management and life-cycle costing: items, that are very important for their project progress, but that are often not in the main focus while working on self-healing materials. Beside these educational units there was also some time to exercise networking in the snow by using snowboards, skis or sledges to ride down the slopes.

21. October 2014 | Marie Skłodowska-Curie Information Day

Review of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Information Day

On October 6, 2014 an outreach activity took place in Oberhausen called Marie Skłodowska-Curie Information Day.
Within this Information Day the event informed the public about the Initial Training Networks SHeMat - Training Network for Self-Healing Materials: from Concepts to Market and DoHip - Trainings Programme for the Design of Resources and Energy Efficient Products by High Pressure Processes and introduced the recent Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions under Horizon 2020. Different aspects of the projects were highlighted, the management perspective, the fellows perspective and the overall Marie Curie perspective.
A positive feedback were received from the people attended the event. Especially students were very satisfied with the information they received in the event. It was also proposed organize more events like this in future to spread the awareness about Marie Curie Actions.

5. Mai 2014 I Training School II

Successful Training School II in Bristol

The second training school of the SHeMat project held in Bristol was successfully carried out. 14 fellows attended the training school accompanied by supervisors of the hosting organisations.  The training school was well organised by the University of Bristol. Besides public lectures, individual presentations of the fellows and workshops there was time for excursions and social events. Small videos were produced showing the training school and the work within the SHeMat project.
A positive atmosphere led to a lively exchange of experiences in both professional and private life.
We are looking forward to the next training school in Lausanne in 2015.
